The Fountain Bar in The Grove is a scene plucked straight out of a European Summer fantasy, directly adjacent to the fountain in the main plaza with a great view of the dancing water spouts. It’s the quintessential place to people watch in the California sunshine.
For my cocktail, I ordered the classic “Fountain Spritz” which is essentially an Aperol Spritz- because you can’t go wrong with this warm weather staple. It was divine. Just the right amount of sweetness and bubbles.
The restaurant also offers small bites and a selection of additional finely crafted cocktails like the high proof and adventurous ‘Big Daddy Cane,” a combination of Plantation Pineapple Rum, Smith & Cross Rum, Apricot & Sweet Vermouth or the lower proof “John Daly” which is a mixture of Housemade Tea Vodka & Lemonade.
The Fountain Bar is most definitely where I’ll be spending my Friday afternoons after work this Summer, trying out each of the endless combinations of build-your-own Gin & Tonics and testing my adventurous tastes on the plotted cocktail graph based on strength and disposition (See the second photo, below!).
The Fountain Bar is open Sunday-Thursday from 12pm- 10pm and Friday/Saturday 12pm-11pm, and no kids are allowed after 5pm (but this is Los Angeles, so I have seen plenty people with their pooch in a stroller in the patio area at all times of day).
In conclusion, I’m no Don Draper and I don’t live in the Manhattanesque world of Mad Men- but hey, who doesn’t enjoy a quality cocktail with a view and fountain show every once in a while?
