Hillcrest House is a CABBI certified bed and breakfast located in the eclectic Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego. It’s tucked away into a quiet secluded corner of this vibrant uptown community, hosting just five quaint guest rooms that each guarantee plenty of personal space to relax. This destination is a safe and clean escape in SoCal to plan a summer getaway.
In fact, the property was the first B&B in San Diego to be “Clean + Safe” Certified by the California Hotel & Lodging Association, guaranteeing a healthy and safe stay that feels like a “Home Away From Home.”
The property’s owner and innkeeper Ann meets guests at the door upon arrival, and maintains a stringent standard of cleanliness. She even offers expert local insight into the best places to eat, drink, and explore in the area!

The Guest Rooms
Each room at the Hillcrest House is appropriately named after an iconic San Diego landmark, such as the “Old Town Room,” the “Coronado Room,” or the “Gaslamp Room.”
We stayed in the “La Jolla Suite” which was incredible. A dip in the enormous jacuzzi felt like the perfect way to wind down after a stressful day of work and travel.

The rooms on-site are newly renovated, each with its own private bathroom, luxury 5,000 thread count linens, WiFi and Cable TV (we cozied up and watched a movie on Hulu!).
Breakfast Time!
There’s a breezy open air porch at the front of the Bed & Breakfast which was the perfect way to start the day. I enjoyed hot cup of coffee along with a selection of Ann’s daily curated “Heart Healthy” breakfast items.
From home baked muffins, to a generously sized California fresh fruit tray, sliced bananas, yogurt, granola, warm hard boiled eggs, orange juice, whole grain toast with homemade fruit preserves, and peanut butter (YUM!) there’s no shortage of nourishment to start the day off right.
There’s also a beverage station downstairs which is open 24/7, and serves coffee alongside a selection of rotating herbal teas.

If you’re seeking something a bit more private for your visit to Hillcrest, in addition to the Bed & Breakfast, Ann oversees the Hillcrest Bungalow Vacation Rental which is just a five minute drive away. It’s a larger, private vacation home that’s perfect for family travel, and it’s pet friendly.
Other important details to know:
Check in is 3pm–6pm, and check out is 11:00am.
Be sure to let Ann know if you’re running late. Since this is a hosted inn, there will be a wonderfully helpful person there to physically greet you and check you into the property when you arrive.

Overall, Hillcrest House is a fabulous destination for a Southern California staycation or weekend getaway just a couple hours from Los Angeles. Its location, amenities, and gracious host make it somewhere I know I’ll be returning to sometime soon (in addition to the property’s numerous loyal repeat visitors!).
